2018 Volkswagen Golf Owner's Manual
In the European market 5 different systems of power plants are offered: gasoline engines TSI, diesel engines TDI, natural gas engines TGI, gasoline power plants with soft hybrid system eTSI, as well as plug-in hybrids. The three-cylinder TSIs produce 90 and 110 hp. The four-cylinder TDIs make 115 and 150 hp (the manufacturer claims they are 17 percent more fuel efficient and emit less NOx thanks to the double addition of AdBlue). Gasoline engines with a 48-volt soft-hybrid system (belt-driven starter-generator with a lithium-ion battery) produce 110, 130, and 150 hp; this is the first time such a system has appeared in this generation of Golf. Finally, the rechargeable petrol hybrids have a 13 kWâ h battery and produce 204 or 245 (GTE version) hp. The power units are equipped with either a six-speed “manual” or a seven-speed “robot” with two clutches.
