VW Transporter T4 Owner's Manual

The VW Transporter T4 is a representative of the fourth generation of minibuses from Volkswagen. The first models of this generation were introduced in 1990.
The main innovation was the location of the engine in the front of the vehicle. Among other updates, the developers offered front-wheel drive and water cooling of the power unit.

VW Transporter T4 Technical characteristics

The car received a wide range of powertrains. Gasoline engines were represented by in-line four- and five-cylinder engines with a displacement of 2 and 2.5 liters. The power of these units was 84, 110 and 115 horsepower. A gasoline V-shaped 6-cylinder engine with a displacement of 2.8 liters was available for the 1996-2003 models.

The line of diesel engines was represented by in-line 1.9-liter and 2.4-liter engines with a capacity of 61 and 78 horses, respectively.

Also presented were turbocharged 5-cylinder in-line engines with a displacement of 2.5 liters.

The engines are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic transmission.

The chassis system is represented by a front independent torsion bar and a rear spring suspension. The car has rear and front disc brakes.

Interior and exterior design

The car’s exterior emphasizes its reliability and practicality. The rectangular front headlights have two blocks. Turn indicators are mounted on the wing. A massive black bumper adds confidence.

The VW Transporter T4 minibus is available in two wheelbases – long and short.

The parameters of this body are 3320 mm and 2020 mm, respectively. The model is available in both cargo and passenger versions. The latter differs from the previous one by its perimeter glazing. The vehicle has no interior partition separating the cabin from the cargo compartment. In the rear of the cabin, there are one or two rows of seats that can be easily dismantled or repositioned. The front row of seats is represented by a single or double passenger seat.

Caravelle, Multivan, Euro Van models have rounded windows and three rows of seats.

The seats have fabric upholstery and armrests. The seats can be in the form of a bench or two single folding seats in front.

The car is equipped with a radio and air conditioning. The fan speed, direction and heating temperature can be adjusted.
