2013 Volkswagen Golf Owner's Manual

The Golf Variant is available with both gasoline and diesel powertrains. The former – eTSI – features a “soft hybrid” system: a belt-driven starter-generator and a lithium-ion battery operate at 48V, putting the car into coasting drive whenever appropriate to reduce engine emissions. For example, the 1.0-liter eTSI produces 110 hp and 200 Nm. As for the diesel engines, they are equipped with two-stage AdBlue urea injection and a dual SCR catalytic converter. The 2.0-liter TDI has two boosts: 115 hp (300 Nm) and 150 hp (360 Nm). “Soft-hybrid” gasoline engines are equipped with “robot” DSG, for diesel engines the alternative is also “manual”.
