2016 Volkswagen Up! Owner's Manual
(Volkswagen up! GTI) is a “charged” front-drive A-class hatchback built on the basis of a restyled version of the up! The official unveiling of the car took place at VW headquarters in Wolfsburg on January 16, 2018.
Judging by the media presentation of the model, the main task of the brand’s marketers was to provide access to the not-so-driving tiny up! to the bigger, brighter and much sportier legacy of the GTI. They decided to do this by drawing parallels with the first generation VW Golf GTI, which debuted way back in 1975. It had an electronically injected 1.6-liter diesel engine of 110 hp and 140 Nm of torque, capable of accelerating the ancestor of the GTI family to a “hundred” in 9 seconds. Small up! GTI is equipped with a 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbo engine of the EA211 family with two camshafts (installed also on Golf and Polo) which produces 115 hp and 200 Nm, works with a six-speed manual (available only for GTI-version) and accelerates baby up to “hundred” for 8.8 seconds, the top speed – 196 km/h. Herewith the claimed fuel consumption is 4.8 liters (according to the cycle NEDC, the cycle WLTP – 5.6-5.7 liters per “hundred”) of gasoline per “hundred,” that is no wonder, as curb weight of the car is 1070 kg (length – 3600 mm).
