The new 2024 Volkswagen Taos SUV is built on the common MQB platform with the Skoda Karoq car. Structurally, it is the same car with the same wheelbase of 2638 mm.

The model has been exported to the USA, Asian countries and Europe for several years. For the first time, the model was presented in 2021 and during the years of production, it did not undergo significant changes both constructively and in terms of design.

The last generation Taos of 2024 production received a minimally updated appearance thanks to a minor facelift and a wider set of options.

Engines and equipment

The car is equipped with two gasoline engines, depending on the configuration, it can be either a 1.6 atmospheric MPI with a capacity of 110 hp, which works in tandem with a mechanical 5-speed gearbox, or a turbocharged 1.4 TSI with a capacity of 150 hp which is combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission or a 7-speed robot from DSG. Volkswagen positions the car as an urban budget crossover, so all-wheel drive is available only in the top configuration with 1.4 MPI and DSG robot.

Visually, the design of the model remains unchanged. The updated IQ.Light matrix headlights, which the automaker installs on all the latest models of its cars, are also available only in the maximum configuration. This also applies to interior decoration.

The main feature of the interior is a 10-inch central display with a touchscreen, a multifunctional multimedia system and navigation, which can be connected to your mobile device via the Bluetooth system. The instrument panel of the car is also made in the form of a liquid crystal display. For more convenient boarding, the car is equipped with a keyless access system.

The interior of the car itself is quite spacious, rear passengers have enough space for their legs and head. The rear sofa is equipped with a heating system and the presence of USB outputs behind. Already in the basic configuration, electric windows are fully automatic.

The useful volume of the luggage compartment is equal to 500 liters for the single-wheel drive model and 420 liters for the four-wheel drive version. Under the false floor, instead of a spare full-size wheel, there is a roller. The luggage compartment lid is equipped with a rearview camera with a washing system and an electric drive, available in more expensive configurations.

Considering the price of the Volkswagen Taos and the segment in which the model is positioned, the car is aimed at a young audience of buyers, offering a modern design and a sufficient selection of additional options.

Volkswagen Taos on the road

The first test drives of the car showed that in motion everything is not as bright as on paper. It is in the top all-wheel drive version of the Taos that the robotic DSG gearbox is not quite well balanced with the engine and four-wheel drive system, causing some delays when changing gears or picking up speed. Such defects were detected when driving downhill and during the operation of the car in various driving modes. Perhaps such operation of the transmission is caused by certain shortcomings of the software firmware.

As for driving, the car holds the road perfectly, the steering wheel is quite clear and informative. The MQB platform, on which the car is based, has proven itself very well in terms of reliability over the years of its production, giving the car confidence both on asphalt and on dirt surfaces.

2024 Volkswagen Taos Maintenance

Scheduled maintenance is scheduled by the manufacturer every 15,000 kilometers or one year of vehicle operation.

Necessary work:

• Replacement of interior and air filters;
• Fuel filter replacement;
• Computer diagnostics of the car;
• Checking and replacing spark plugs;
• Replacement of lubricant and oil filter (every 6-8 thousand km);
• Replacement of brake fluid (after 3 years of operation)
• Automatic transmission oil change (every 60,000 km) for the version with DSG (every 30-40,000 km)
• Replacement of the timing belt (every 90,000 km)
