Touareg R can be identified by a black grille, more aggressive bumpers with black inserts, the lack of protection of unpainted plastic on the body, tinted taillights and trapezoidal overlays on the exhaust system. 20-inch wheels are standard for the crossover, with 21- and 22-inch wheels available as options. IQ.Light matrix headlights are basic equipment.

Inside, passengers can expect upholstered Vienna leather seats with embossed “R” on the headrests, embellished stitching, aluminum and black gloss on the front fascia and doors, and stainless steel overlays on the pedals. Basic equipment includes both a 12-inch Digital Cockpit and a 15-inch touchscreen display of the Discover Premium multimedia system, a panoramic sunroof and a four-zone climate control system.

Optional equipment for Touareg R includes air suspension, Night Vision system with infrared camera, ventilation of front seats, projection display and 780-watt Dynaudio audio system with 13 speakers. Also offered for a fee, the second level of Travel Assist autopilot now works at speeds up to 250 km/h (previously – up to 210 km/h). At the time of presentation, the Touareg R is the first hybrid crossover to be equipped with Trailer Assist.
