2022 Volkswagen Taos Owner's Manual
Volkswagen Taos (Volkswagen Taos) is a front-wheel drive crossover of “K1” class. The first generation of the model. The crossover premiered in the U.S. on October 13, 2021.
One name – for two models: with the name “Taos” concern Volkswagen Group produces a crossover both for America and for UK (as well as a number of other countries, but we are now interested in these). But despite the external similarity – headlights, combined diode bar, vertical grille, silver bumper trim and protective panels of unpainted plastic on the circle – the USA- and CIS-models are significantly different.
The power plants of the cars are also different. Taos, which is produced in UK, is equipped with two gasoline engines: 1.6-liter atmospheric 1.6 MPI (110 hp, 152 Nm of torque, five-speed “mechanics”) and 1.4-liter turbocharged TSI (150 hp, 250 Nm, eight-speed torque converter for mono-drive versions and seven-speed “robot” for 4Motion versions).
Taos, which leaves the assembly line in Mexico, is equipped with only one gasoline engine – 1.5-liter turbocharged TSI (EA211) with a more advanced design (fuel efficient Miller cycle, increased to 350 bar pressure in the injectors, variable geometry turbine, high – for the standards of turbo – compression ratio of 11.5:1). It develops 160 hp and 249 Nm of torque and, similarly to 1.4 TSI, works together with eight-speed hydromechanics or seven-speed “robot” depending on availability of a full drive. By the way, the versions 4Motion are completed with multilever suspension behind, the same-wheel drive – with a torsion bar.
And here is the interior, like appearance, crossovers have similar (and predictable, in fact we have in front of us the next product of Volkswagen Group): Touch screen multimedia system MIB2 (6.5 inches) or MIB3 (8 inches) recessed into the front panel, under it is a climate control unit with physical buttons and rotary knobs. In front of the steering wheel (also with physical buttons) is a digital dashboard: 8-inch in the simpler equipment and 10.25-inch, fully customizable Digital Cockpit Pro in higher configurations.
However, because of the difference in size of the wheelbase there is more space on the second row in Taos for America, and the luggage compartment has 790 liters, while in the UK version we are talking about 500 liters.
Available for both cars are adaptive cruise control, Lane Keeping Aid, blind spot monitoring (the American version has more systems combined in the complex IQ. Drive, positioned by the manufacturer as such, which allows semi-automatic control), adaptive headlights, 17-inch wheels (in the U.S. – and 19-inch), the ability to choose driving modes, rearview camera, parking sensors front and rear, power adjustable driver seat, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging for smartphone.
