Volkswagen ID.3 is a rear-wheel drive electric C-class hatchback. The first generation of the model. The premiere demonstration of the electric car took place on September 9, 2019 at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The ID.3 is the concern’s first car built on the Modularer E-Antriebs-Baukasten (MEB) platform, which is designed exclusively for electric cars. According to the idea of the creators, the ID. 3 is a continuation of the line of VW Beetle and VW Golf as a truly mass-market car, being a pioneer in the category of relatively affordable electric cars.

The MEB platform means that the ID. 3 flat battery located under the bottom of the hatch; the synchronous electric motor, single-speed gearbox and power electronics are integrated in the rear axle; the steering rack and air conditioner compressor are compactly located in the front. Because of the location of the main components the MEB platform is called “skateboard-platform”.
