2011 Volkswagen Touareg Owner's Manual
All-wheel drive is realized through a central Torsen differential, which can give up to 70% of torque to the front axle and up to 80% to the rear. The driver can choose from seven modes of driving electronics (Eco, Comfort, Normal, Sport, Individual, Offroad and Snow), with two more modes (Gravel and Sand) added if the Touareg is equipped with an off-road package.
The synchronous electric motor is built into the eight-speed automatic transmission, and by default (if the battery is charged), the Touareg begins driving on electric power. However, the driver has the ability to adjust the use of electricity on their own (for example, to forcibly leave a fixed amount of charge or include charging the battery with the help of the engine and recuperation).
